In memory of Najim al-Lami
The Iraqui poet Najm al-Lami was shot dead in Al-Shaab district as he was returning home from Tahrir Square in central Baghdad where he had been an active participant in the ongoing popular Uprising since it erupted on 1 October 2019.
Al-Lami, a well-known poet, was mourned by the Union of Iraqi Writers which strongly condemned this cowardly act.
The funeral of the communist martyr took place this morning (11 December 2019) in Tahrir Square, central Baghdad, with the participation of members of Iraqi CP leadership.
- I send our condolences to the family, friends and all Communist party members. With great sorrow and anger, we have received the sad news of the assassination of the the poet Ali Najim al-Lami. Comrade and member of the Communist party. Prior to that, hundreds of Iraqi people were killed in various ways, including violence by the security services, and arrests and threat for activists and their families continue, states JP (Juha-Pekka) Väisänen
The Communist Pary of Finland strongly condemns the violence and the assassination that the Iraqi people face.
- We call on the international community and human rights organizations to play their role in supporting the Iraqi people to achieve their rights in change the regime and construct new society and a true democracy, says SKP chair JP (Juha-Pekka) Väisänen.
