Sea of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation

US imperialist attack peace again. On July 13, the United States Department of State published a statement on South China Sea accusing China. The US statement disregards the historical facts in the South China Sea and efforts by China and ASEAN countries to maintain peace and stability, deliberately stokes territorial and maritime disputes, sows’ discord between China and ASEAN countries, and undermines regional peace and stability.

The Chinese side has opposed the wrong move by the US Imperialists.

From my Nordic observation I can say, that over the past years, China and ASEAN countries are collaborating to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes through friendly consultations and negotiations with sovereign states directly concerned and to jointly maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea with ASEAN countries. Countries seem to proceed to engaging in win-win cooperation under the principle of “shelving differences and seeking joint development”, so as to make positive contribution to the development and prosperity of the region and world.

The declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) signed in 2002 functions here as remarkable tool of collaboration.

According China itself, China works closely with other littoral countries of the South China Sea and the international community to ensure the safety of and the unimpeded access to the international shipping lanes in the South China Sea. The freedom of navigation and overflight enjoyed by all states under international law in the South China Sea have never been affected.

For peace acivist it is important always to be able to choose the peace constructive side in the battle of powers. At today’s world it means respecting the ideological differences, indigenous rights, workers’ rights – and progressive class-oriented feminist approach and human rights in it´s all aspect. I have high hopes that Sanna Marin government to finally end the oppressive situation of the Europe´s only indigenous group Saami by ratifying the ILO 169 agreement. In the North the Finnish peace movement find it important to proceed with antimilitary policy and we oppose the Finnish Governments plans to invest in new air fighters. Peace loving people work for strengthen all initiatives to ban nuclear weapons globally. Together the peace movement and the Finnish civil society is fighting against all weapons of mass destruction.

Today is a good day to receive good messages of progress.At present, China and ASEAN countries are advancing the consultations on a Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea, pushing for an early conclusion of the consultations. This can be considered a progressive step to make the South China Sea a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation.

Chinese people and the Communist party believe that South China sea issue and relevant disputes should be resolved peacefully through negotiation and consultation by different parties directly concerned based on the merits of the issue. It is logical that the Chinese people oppose the US or any non-regional countries’ intervention and undermining China and ASEAN countries’ efforts to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea. I see importance in the Chinese peace building efforts at the region.

I strongly oppose the US anti-human and anti-peace policy. I wish that peace building and friendship among the peoples will strengthen, regional peace and stability will develop and we all start promote progressive development and prosperity of the world at large. Initiatives of peace will win in the battle of the powers.
