Tiago Silva member of the European Left Migration Working Gropu and Chairman of Turku’s Regional Organisation of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) finds both the Marseille Forum and the Catania conference, which the European Left is organising together with other left-wing forces, most important steps. Silva says in his Berling meeting speech that the bright side of the Finnish migartion scenario, is that the government’s xenophobic programme has met opposition from a great part of the Finnish society and from the asylum seekers themselves, with big demonstrations in favour of a multicultural Finland and with active protests against deportations of asylum seekers.

Message of Solidarity to Iraqi people, the Communist Party of Iraq and their uprising
We are following with big interest what is going from many days in the streets of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and various Iraqi cities. We strongly condemn the acts of violence committed against peaceful demonstrators by the Iraqi government.
We stand with the activists of uprising of the Iraqi youth and offer wishes of recovery to hundreds of wounded. We express our support for the demonstrators' demand for their legitimate rights to freedom of opinion and a free and dignified life.
We salute the Iraqi sincere efforts working to establishing a state based on citizenship and true democracy, a state of institutions, law, security and social justice, including the brotherly Iraqi Communist Party, whose many members were martyred and wounded during the demonstrations.
We call on all humanitarian and human rights organizations to intervene decisively to stop this bloody bleeding. We also call on the Iraqi authorities to stop the security crackdown on peaceful popular demonstrations.
Stop the violence against peaceful demonstrations. Victory to the uprising of the Iraqi people.
