CPF Central Committee: Recognize the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic

The Communist Party of Finland fully supports the peaceful actions of the Western Saharan Polisario Front in the struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination.

The CPF calls on the Finnish government to recognize the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic. It further appeals for solidarity work with the Saharawi people by NGOs in Finland, so that in the present difficult situation new links can be forged with solidarity forces both in Finland and abroad to bolster the solidarity needed with the Saharawi people in their struggle for self-determination and building a new society.

The CPF condemns the spending cuts instituted by the Sipilä administration, which is directed at the most vulnerable people in the world in the form of development aid cuts and at the same time significantly undermines the scope of Finnish solidarity work and by funding cuts targeted at NGO activities, such as the work of peace organisations and information activities concerning the EU.

The CPF Central Committee appeals to members of parliament in Finland to set up a Saharawi friendship group to help promote official contacts and solidarity between Finland the Polisario Front.
