The Communist Party of Finland and the 2015 parliamentary elections

Finland will hold Parliamentary elections 19 April 2015 to decide on the composition of the country’s highest decision-making body for the next four years. The outgoing Parliament slashed basic services and failed to create jobs. It pursued a right-wing policy of supporting the big banks and rich corporate elites.
As a party member of the European Left, the Communist Party of Finland (CPF) is taking part in the 2015 elections in opposition to the European Union’s economic austerity policy.
The CPF is part of the European and global movement and class struggle against capitalism and the neo-liberal policy of slashing public spending. We demand that the EU’s Austerity Treaty, the restoration of national sovereignty and the building of a new kind of Europe – one based on the equality of citizens and peoples, socially and environmentally sustainable development, democracy and international solidarity.
What sort of Finland do we want?
· A six-hour working day
· The abandoning of the ruinous rationalisation of the social and health care system, and instead proper local services
· €1 200 basic social security to replace the current benefit maze
· No to Nato, yes to peace policy
What will we build it with?
· Progressive, free education
· Decentralised and environmentally sustainable development
· Utilizing high technology
How will we achieve it?
· By overhauling income distribution
· By deepening and extending democracy
· Through the combined action of workers’ and citizens’ movements
The CPF will also be a party of the working class following the elections. We believe that people have the ability to bring changes and act on their own initiative to improve their position. We want to give a voice to workers, students, pensioners trade unionists and activists, who are pushed to the sidelines by big business. We are carrying out this programme together with civil society organisations and in other mass activities, and we are always open to discussing the possibilities of working together. In order to break the stranglehold of big capital we need to mobilise the combined strength and class struggle of the working class movement and civil society movements.
The aims and measures outlined in this programme open the way towards a better future, beyond the crises of capitalism and toward a new kind of 21st century socialism.
