The Congress of the CP of Finland

The Congress of the Communist Party of Finland took place on 15.-16.5.2010 near Helsinki, in the city of Vantaa.

The report of the Central Committee presented by chairman Yrjö Hakanen evaluated the current international and national situation, the main orientation of the CP of Finland and the challenges in building up stronger opposition and an alternative to the right-wing forces and big capital. The Congress adopted a document ”The way out of crises – towards a different kind of economy and development” and an Appeal for ”Co-operation for a change of the direction in politics”.

The Congress adopted four resolutions: On the social security, on the international situation, on common interests of immigrants and working people, and against the political corruption and undemocratic electoral laws.

The CP of Finland has made a proposal to the Left Alliance and to other left forces for co-operation in the upcoming parliamentary elections (April 2011) with the aim of forming a radical left and red-green coalition.

One third of the members elected to the new central committee are new ones. Yrjö Hakanen was re-elected chairman of the party and so was Lena Huldén as vice-chairperson. The Congress elected a new general secretary – Juha-Pekka Väisänen, former secretary of Uusimaa district organization of the CPF and well-known activist among numerous civic movements in Finland.

131 elected delegates took part the congress as well as 80 invites and observers. 14 foreign delegates from the European Left, Communist and other left parties participated in the congress. Many other Communist and left parties sent their greetings.

The CP of Finland holds its congresses every third year.
